bullet point with paragraphs under it

I want to use a bullet pointed list, but I want to be able to be able to continue the bullet point text over multiple paragraphs. The paragraphs should be equally indented, just like the first one preceding the bullet point.

Right now if I press enter the next paragraph automatically becomes "2", if I backspace out the "2" the paragraph loses it's indent and the computer no longer thinks of it as a continuation under the initial point.

I could try to indent the following paragraphs the exact same amount using paragraph formatting, but this is cumbersome, and the bullets lose their continuity.

I realise this is unusual. But it would be idea for the particular situation.

Here's a screenshot for what I did before posting:

When typing into a document based on the Blank template <control-return> did the trick for me. But I see <shift-return> seems to have an identical result (in Pages 6.2).

I did a little old-school cheating and just typed <control-return> (or <shift-return>) twice when I wanted a blank line in between.

You guys are amazing! This is a fabulous trick and I'll definitely use it some time.

Unfortunately it doesn't solve this particular problem. This starts a new line *within* a paragraph. It doesn't allow me to start a new paragraph. So unfortunately this messes up another bit of formatting. This document has a .5 line space between paragraphs. If I start a new line, I get normal within paragraph line spacing, and it's not obvious I've started a new paragraph. If I double <shift-enter> I get a full line space, and it looks out of place.

What I really need is a way to start a new paragraph, having it be recognized as a new paragraph by Pages, with my .5 line space between them, not just a new line.

I'm fairly certain it can be done in Word, but I really don't want to download it for one formatting issue. And I would like to think Pages should be able to do everything Microsoft does by now. There must be something I'm missing here?

There's a quick hack to make the full line space smaller. Insert one or more spaces on that line, select those invisible characters, and choose a smaller font size for them. That will have the effect of lessening the line space between the lines so it doesn't look out of place with the rest of your document.

Once you've got the line spacing effect you want, you can select the "smaller font spaces" and the soft return, copy, and paste them wherever you need them within the bullets or numbered list.
