If anyone knows how to fix this problem please let me know. I have had to delete heaps of files and apps so my computer has even a little amount of storage.

Have you tried the Manage option shown in your screenshot?
Also, in Disk Utility, how much free space is shown for your Macintosh HD? Does it match the About This Mac figure?

In that case it's probably not just the Spotlight problem. Have you seen these threads in your searches? There are a lot of solutions offered but nothing that really stands out.

When did your problem begin? Restoring your OS from a Time Machine backup might work. You do that from Recovery mode. Also in Recovery mode, use Disk Utility to run First Aid on your startup disk.
Have you tried opening a Finder window, selecting your hard disk (Macintosh HD unless you changed the name) and run Get Info from Finder / File? Or click on the i button in the Finder window toolbar. Does it show the same amount for "available"?
You can use these 2 programs to see what files are taking up so much space.

Rebuilding the Spotlight index can sometimes solve problems with the Storage readings.

I have. Doesn't change anything...
Didn't work either.
It says the same amount (4.2GB)
