iPhone 7 Plus Ringer Switch Not Working

So my iPhone 7 plus is stuck in ringer mode. When I move the switch on the side to the down position, nothing happens at all and the phone still makes a sound for a notification. There used to be an overlay with the bell that said ringer and would tell you the volume lever or a line would be through it meaning it was on silent, but that no longer happens. This leads me to believe it is broken but I'm not sure what to do about it. I've tried a hard reboot of the phone but that didn't do anything.

Hello,

What to do if a button or switch isn't working

  1. Restart your device. If you can't restart your device, try to force restart it.
  2. Remove any protective films and cases that might block the button or switch.
  3. Check for debris or dirt around the button or switch, and clean with a soft cloth.

If you need help with Touch ID, learn what to do.

If the button or switch still isn't working, is damaged, or works intermittently, you might need to set up service for your device. Contact Apple Support, then follow the steps to complete your service request.

If you think the ringer switch is broken you can bypass it entirely with an internal workaround!

GO: Settings / General / Accessibility / AssitiveTouch . When you switch on AssitiveTouch you will get an interactive dot that hangs on your screen at all times. The dot brings up a menu where you can quickly go: Device / Mute. You can therefore override your faulty ringer switch whenever you like. This works on the latest OS10.3.3 but probably others as well.
