My icloud e-mail said it couldnt log in a few days ago on my android phone. I went as far as deleting the account and trying to reset it up. I keep getting the error message authentification failed. Unable to set up account. Can someone help me pleas

My icloud e-mail has been working fine on my android device forever. After my most recent software update my e-mail started saying my password was incorrect. I tried signing in on my computer, so I know the password I'm using is correct. I deleted my icloud e-mail account and tried to set it up again and now I'm getting the error message "unable to aunthenticate" "failed to set up account". Can someone help me?

There is a new requirement that an app-specific password rather than your usual Apple ID password be used when accessing iCloud email from a non-Apple app. In order to get an app-specific password you must have two-factor authentication or two-step verification turned on. I have an Samsung S4 (android) smartphone and I also have an apple email account which I'm trying to use on my phone. I seem to be having the same problem. Over the past month or so I haven't been able to send emails from my Samsung S4. It tells me that the authentication has failed. But the my Apple ID and password is correct. So then I find out about this NEW two step process that I need to set up on my phone. So I LOGIN to my account from my Mac desktop computer and begin to have problems with getting the app-specific password that I need to be able to properly set up my phone to access my Apple account.

The 2-step verification process to create an app-specific password is sooooo buggy!!! I tried it earlier today and I seem to get to the point in the process where I would be sent an app-specific password. I was supposed to receive a text message but it took forever to send it. So there was option link to hit in case I didn't receive a 4 digit code so I clicked it again and again. Then all at once I received 7 different text messages each with different 4 digit codes. I tried each one of them but none them worked. It eventually told me that I entered the wrong number too many times and had to try again later. LATER??? How much later? Ever since then I never got to that step of the process again. And it's been 4 hours since I first attempted the whole 2-step verification process.

Just to see if it was a browser issue I tried it first on Chrome, then tried it on Firefox, and lastly Safari. No difference!!! Can anyone help with this? And suggestions?
