Make logo spin like coin FCPX

Hi here are 2 questions in 1

i have final cut (i do not own Motion yet but will do in the near future)

1 i know there's a way to keyframe a single rotation into a logo (which i can't remember at the moment) which will have my Png logo spin once but if i would like it to spin say like a coin , fast at 1st then slow down realistically i'm not sure how to go about it.

can i use transitions ? there is a flip transition but it makes the entire video flip and not just the logo (even though the logo is in its own lane )

or

Is there an extension to do so hopefully not an expensive or preferably free extension

i guess there is a way to keyframe this but i Bet my top dollar it will take ages to get it to look Natural

2) After i have my Logo animation made how can i save it so i can reuse it simply by drag and drop into a new project , is it even possible or must i make the animation everytime ?

Thank you

Hi

Finally!!! i found out what it was , the Motion Templates folder is located visually different In my version of FCPX 10.3.4

Top Left corner of the screen , that's why i could never find where this Coin animation was , again i did not have to create ~/Movies/Motion Templates/ IT was already there! the misunderstanding is how to access it in FCPX (top Left Corner) , IT WAS THERE ALL ALONG!

Again thank you very much, i have since purchased Motion and will be trying to edit the coin , as in removing the coin and adding my LOGo but keeping the fXs

I leave a screenshot of where it is located in my FCPX

3D Rotation transformation parameters (X and Y axis) are not typically available in Final Cut, you need to have those parameters published in a Motion template.

Since I'll do anything to avoid writing user guides ( 😉 ) I (literally) threw this together. It is nowhere as complete as it could be, but since you're going to get Motion anyway, here's a little project started for you that you can build up later.

http://sight-creations.com/fxexchange/sc_CoinLogo.zip

This is a 3D Title and requires the use of a font (supplied).

Please follow these instructions:

The font included: ZZSCCoin-Regular.ttf. You must install it (Font Book) before using the template.

If you need help installing this title: http://fcpxtemplates.com/install4fcpx/latest.htm

Here are the published parameters:

The first Drop Zone is the front face of the coin. It's the side the animation ends on. Use the Pan and Scale parameters for each to position the image(s) used. Default placeholders (coin faces) are included. [Note: there is another Scale parameter above the drop zones which will scale the size of the "coin".] Using Video > Compositing > Opacity will not fade the storyline.

There is an onscreen control (OSC) for positioning in the viewer.

The animation will spin the coin quickly and it slows down to a stop near the end of the title. It's very effect to keyframe the position of the coin to move horizontally a bit while spinning (and move it in from off-screen).

The drop zone images will be slightly embossed (like a real coin).

To save an animation "preset", turn the Title into a Compound Clip to preserve your settings.

Enjoy!

Thanks For the reply , i will try it out when i get Motion but i found a way not too hard

and just using FCPX , i used the standard crop tool inside the PNG logo video lane

While in Crop mode if you grab the bottom corners and (in this example bottom right corner) while the PNG logo is selected you can obviously resize it by dragging the point into the center or outwards diagonally , but if you drag the it linearly or horizontally straight to the left, FCPX flip the logo back on itself effectively giving you a backwards mirror image of you PNG logo , once i found this out (which i did messing around with the crop tool) i key framed in a few "flips" (then checked in play back and BAM it worked)

i then selected the PNG logo in the lane and pressed ctrl + V which gave me a bunch of options one of which is the keyframes and their locations , i pushed some keyframes closer together during the start of the animation (making the image spin faster) and stretched out the other keyframes and now i have a spinning coin like animation

Thanks a lot

The link I posted is a fully functioning FCPX Title.

Here's a demo of the project:

coinLogodemoVideo264 - YouTube

I used my logo on one side and a video on the other. You might be able to tell that video works in the drop zone. The horizontal (and vertical) movement in the demo is keyframed animation. The coin spinning is the default animation — you do not need to keyframe the spin. Where the coin pauses is the default location of the "coin".

You do not need Motion to use it... but you will need Motion if you would like to make modifications to it (like add wobbling effects, etc.)

1st of all excellent video tutorials and great Video series

I Didn't do this yesterday since the 1st link for some reason never downloaded today i tried and yes it did download but following your video tutorial on installing the animation

A Guide to Installing Templates/Plug-ins for Final Cut Pro X - YouTube

at 6:50 you go to an option "Generator" which i dont have nor do i have an option for "Titles" which is the type of animation you sent me but i did follow all the steps previously - although i did not have to make the Motion Templates folder since it was already in my system (i guess the new FCPX made the directory automatically)

and well i can't seem to get at the animation

Thanks for your help

It should have been noted in those instructions that IF any of those folders do not exist in ~/Movies/Motion Templates/ that you need to create the folders, name them specifically (Generators, Titles, Transitions, Effects) and add the .localized extension to them. Further, you must create a Category folder within these "top level" folders to contain the template folder.

Also, with this template, you must install the font that accompanies the template before using in FCPX. The font contains the artwork for the "coin" graphic.
