Turn closed captioning off/on - Apple TV Remote?

I keep inadvertently turning on closed captioning from my glass top, 4G Apple TV Remote. How do I turn it off again? The CC Command that presents itself with a swipe down gesture doesn't actually turn it on or off, at least not for me.

MacBook Pro, OS X El Capitan (10.11.1), Mac Pro, MacBook Pro, iPhone, iPad

Settings > General > Accessibility > Subtitles & Captioning

You can also enable/disable captioning for a specific title. Swipe down whilst the movie is playing (Apple TV 4) or press and hold the “Select/Centre” button (Apple TV 2/3) and navigate to the “Subtitle” tab.
