80GB iPod can't use a remote?

I'm totaly stumped...

I have a Universal dock (MA242LL/A) with the remote (MA128G/A). I returned the remote and dock twice now. I've even changed the battery in the remote. And I've even restored my iPod. I've NOW bought a 3rd party (generic) Dock and Remote....still the remote will not do a thing. Not 1 button on the remote works. I've looked all over for a solution. No results....

Is the 80GB iPod incompatible with the Apple remote? (or any other remote for that matter..)

I LOVE my iPod....but I'm about to give up on the whole dock/remote idea.....HELP!

OK ...I hope this helps some of you 80GB owners out there. I just bought a Kensington Stereo Dock p/n: 33164 (for work) and it works GREAT! Sound is excellent and remote works great! Being this unit works great ...I also got the Entertainment Dock 500 p/n: 33350 (for home) ...and WOW!

Now I'm in no way supporting non-apple products, but for some reason the Apple Dock and remote (as well as other 3rd party docks/remotes) just would not work on the 80gb 5.5 gen. Now I haven't tried the DLO stuff yet, so I can't comment on those. But if you're having the same problem I was, then the Kensington is the way to go. Only problem is that is doesn't allow you to sync your ipod 😟 ... but at least I have a working Dock and Remote. YAY! 🙂
