Default NAS streaming to Apple TV???

I use Infuse 5 and it *****. PlayerXtreme is worse. The other choices don't work either. This is beyond frustrating. These third party apps are unstable, unreliable and cannot handle large video files very well.

NAS storage devices are growing due to home streaming. Many people such as myself are actively digitally archiving all of their movies and TV shows to these portable home servers.

When is Apple going to integrate default NAS streaming to the Apple TV 4?? This is a feature that is way overdue and should be part of tvOS 11 by default!!!

Hi. Have you tried VLC? You can offer suggestions to Apple at this link: Feedback - Apple TV - Apple. But the way Apple TV interfaces with computers using the iTunes program suggests that directly accessing a file server may not be a priority for Apple.

Apple isn't responsible for how 3rd party apps perform. Nonetheless, most people find they perform perfectly well, have you considered it's you and your set up that is buggy. As for a feature provided by Apple, no thanks mate, I like the way iTunes organises everything for me, if I just wanted files and folders there's a whole bunch of alternate junk out there for me to buy.

I never once said anything about Apple being responsible for 3rd party apps. If you look in the Infuse forums, plenty of user feedback and complaints about the app itself. And yes, it would make difference. Many NAS users including myself would prefer if Apple added the feature of directly accessing the NAS server without having to use a computer and then having to deal with Air Play. Why should we??? Those are unnecessary headaches.

There is nothing wrong with my setup. Check out the software itself. It is called Infuse. The interface is beautiful. However it crashes frequently because it is buggy. PlayerXtreme is another one that has more bugs. VLC does work however the interface is clunky.

think apple don't make money on selling appletv's but make money on the appletvs they sells purchases in apple store in terms of movies and the likes

so taking big steps to make it easier for you to rather then watching their stuff and pay then viewing your own private home videos directly from a nas rather than a computer with a shared iTunes lib may be low on their list of priorities

personally I use plex it works great. my nas also support it native

I've tried them all. They all are buggy and crash constantly. I wrote to Apple directly. I hope they take this suggestion seriously.

I'd just like to add that your unreliable apps might run better if you force quit them after every 5-10 hours of streaming. That frees all their memory so they get a clean start.
