The lightning ports on my Macbook Pro do not mount peripherals properly. I insert lightning cable into port and nothing happens. If I restart computer, then it corrects...but somewhere along the way, the problem recurs.

Although I think you have hardware related problem, did you try resetting SMC as well as NVRAM?
