App-Specific Password not working

Hello,

I have generated an app-specific password for Outlook via appleid.apple.com and I am able to use my iCloud mail account on the Outlook iOS app for iPhone and iPad but unable to log into the desktop version of Outlook on my MacBook or iMac with the same details.

I have also tried using AirMail and Spark with my iCloud account and app-specific password but no luck. I have generated subsequent passwords and reattempted login and still the same issue.

Has anyone experienced this problem?

Hello,

Yes I only installed Spark after your suggestion so have the most up to date version.

Have also tried turning off two factor authentication and reactivating then generating a new password - again it works on the Outlook app on iPhone and iPad but not on the Outlook for Mac. Password also does not work for Airmail 3 or Spark for iOS.

Hi. Have you had any luck with this situation? Mine was working fine for ages, but today is not working. I updated the Spark app hoping that was the answer but alas no. It was taking the password but then kept asking to log in (even while receiving emails), now, after the update it's worse, saying it can't authenticate with this sessions' credentials.

So over apple, think might just convert to a gmail account to get around it.

Eric, You are awesome!

I have a similar problem. I finally got my PC running WIN 10 to sync Outlook 2016 and iCloud. It took 5 app specific passwords and as many installed on the iCloud for Windows app. A step that was just not happening, was the connection of the iCloud mail, contacts, calendar, etc eve though the iCloud for Windows would run 'successfully'. I run an update of Office from inside my Outlook 2016. After a restart and re-install of he iCloud for Windows, unchecking the mail completely and waiting a few seconds, the connection process worked, the TAB appeared in Outlook2016 and all works fine after some fine toning.

I shared this as I expected something similar would solve the same problem of MAIL but nothing else for on iPhone and iPad using the Outlook for iOS app. No such luck. Deleted the app on the iPhone, re-installed and set up all my email accounts. I am not touching my iPad with this again until the iPhone is working properly. I do not have syncing for contacts, calendars on my iDevices with Outlook for iOS.

Any Ideas? It is not as simple a needing to get an app specific password for each device to use to log into the iCloud account in the Outlook for iOS app. Apple support by phone did not seem to understand the problem and after escalating me that tech needed to do research but never has called me back (appointment was set for Saturday). I am not so happy. But I am in search of a solution to this. This Outlook for iOS app is promising and worked well until mid June when everything went upside down for our non Apple developed apps.

Postings here always miss the details of the situation I am trying to fix or show confluence between the Windows desktop Office/Outlook and the iOS and add MAC Outlook. At times you cannot tell what folks are talking about. So, I have separated my discussion of what finally worked for my desktop and my iDevice woes.

That is a good thorough reply. I agree that Apple are less than useful. I persevered and it began working on my laptop (by magic, nothing changed with Spark or anything else i did), BUT still error messages with iphone and IMac. i was actually receiving the messages but getting constant authentication errors so...my solution was....to switch to an gmail account and just forward my icloud messages to it. I'm so tired of Apple refusing to acknowledge publicly that they have ANY issues on any of their devices. (Apple TV being the main offender). If they actually focused on helping their customers it would be great, but I don't believe they do. Next phone will be a Pixel for sure (although Google's customers service is dreadful also but maybe it breaks less.?)

Hi everyone,

Thank you for everyone's input. I had been trying every couple of days and suddenly I seem to be able to generate an app-specific password that worked! I am still unsure why this wasn't working previously (though I did update Outlook on my iMac and MacBook).

Hope others in a similar situation were able to find a resolution as well!
