Force a document to iCloud only?

All,

Is there any way to force a document or folder to be forced to iCloud only while using the "Store in iCloud" feature? Currently, if the local hard drive starts running out of disk space, files will be removed from the local disk and only be available to edit by either opening the document which will automatically download the file from the cloud, or by clicking on the cloud icon with the down arrow. Is there any way for me to force this to happen even before my drive starts running out of disk space? I have a number of files and folders I would like to get off of my disk. Example below:

iCloud is a syncing service. Any file in the iCloud Drive is represented on the boot drive so it can be accessed and edited if there is no internet connection.

Unfortunately, there is no way for you to control the Optimization process. It is automatically controlled. Supposedly, it removes the least used files from the Documents folder and the Desktop first. Files in other folders will not be Optimized.

You might try Dropbox or another cloud storage system to do what you want.

Why have the option to have files removed from the local drive at all and keep an alias on the local drive? I'll wait for more answers.
