How to create a forum/discussion

Forgive me if this subject has been covered,I am looking at starting a forum about the industry I work in with the view to raising revenue through advertising on the site/forum,all the free programs seem to have advertising built into their templates. I have downloaded phpbb2 ,but it all seems pc based.

Is there a mac friendly option ?. Here are a few examples of what I want to achieve;

While I don't know this for certain it seems to me that all of the free ones will probably include advertising. How else do you expect them to pay for hosting the free service?

Try this one, the advertising is very light on it and it should work with any computer.

Thanks for that-what I am hoping to achieve is me selling the advertising space on the forum or having the option to choose to have or not ads. Also to have some control over the appearance and to use my own domain name,rather than

Then you need to go buy a domain name and sign up for a web hosting service which offers forums as part of its package. Just do a google search for web hosting. It's not realistic to think you can do what you want for no cost. Unless you are thinking of running it all from machines that you own yourself?

You can't have it both ways. If you want free, you get advertising. For a free forum hosting service, consider http://groups.yahoo.com but it does include advertisements.

If you insist on no advertising, you will probably need to find a paid forum hosting service or set up your own server.

Maybe I am not explaining this correctly;

I do not want free

I totaly understand with free you get advertising.

What I am asking is there any Mac Friendly programs or applications that allow you to set up a forum or disccussion board and if required have the option to sell advertising space on the site/or discussion board . The hosting side of things I think I have solved.

If you would tell us what this is, it might be easier to help. Does your proposed "host" not offer forums as part of the package? Also what do you mean by "mac friendly"? Forums are just websites running on servers and the platform the viewer or administrator is using is not an important factor.

Have you googled around cgi? Source forge and its newer companion are good surfing spots.
