Why is the firmware update for USB-C multiport adapter not supported by my macbook?

When I connect my usb-c av multiport adapter to my 12 inch macbook (late 2015) it should prompt install of firmware. This doesn't happen. I have tried everything. I've looked in core services > firmware updates and can see the adapterupdate1.pkg file but when I try to reinstall it says "This update is not supported on this computer".

I have tried all the suggestions previously, computer on full power, safe mode, resetting power supply,....nothing works! This adapter cost me 50 quid and it's pretty much useless as I can't use any external peripherals while charging the macbook (e.g a monitor). What do I need to do to fix this. Anyone help?

I bought a Multiport adapter, and the USB-c firmware update, has messed up my video. When I reboot, the black screen has a green bar, my machine is slower, and my browsers 'flicker' on video.

if no help here, headed to genius bar next.

If you bought it recently, the firmware may already have been installed.

Just to note, I recently bought, exchanged, and returned a multipart adapter. The 1st one, directly from Apple on-line, didn't require a firmware update. The 2nd one had to be updated, but neither one of them allowed me to use a USB3 external drive as I charged the MacBook. It worked with a USB2 drive, but not with USB3 drives. So, I returned it. The Genius Bar and telephoned Apple Support were unable to resolve the issue.

My experience coincides with the incredibly low review scores, it's junk.

It's $10 less and worked correctly from first use. It worked with my 12" RMB for USB3 external HDs, and the HDMI works well too.

There is no driver for the Apple one. A firmware update is not a driver install. It only involves updating the software stored in the Apple Multiport device.

And note, this forum area is for the 12" Retina MacBooks, the ones with the single USB-C port. If you have a MacBook Pro, you're in the wrong forum area. I have no experience using this adaptor with a MacBook Pro.

I'm not sure what your issue is, but for me the Apple Digital Multiport Adapter, before and after the firmware update, did not work with my 12" Retina MacBook.

Will try that once I get this MBP corrected=. My issue is the driver for the apple one has impacted my video and system.

USB-C port capabilities on MacBook Pros are a totally different animal. The single USB-C port on the 12" MacBook is not Thunderbolt capable and is limited to USB 3.1 speeds.
