USB hub not powering external DVD drive?
I have a recent iMac (as you know, they don't have DVD drives built in anymore) with a genuine Apple external DVD reader/writer.
The DVD drive works fine when I plug it directly into the iMac, but, I have other peripherals that also need the power from the iMac so can't have the DVD drive plugged in there.
I bought an Anka USB powered hub, but my Apple keyboard and the Apple DVD drive don't work when plugged in there. I just get a warning saying they require more power.
The Anka USB hub I bought is this one: https://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B00PBXTVQ0
I need an external powered USB adapter that has at least 4 USB sockets on it (doesn't need to be 7 like the one I bought, but 4 minimum) that will power and work with my Apple Keyboard and Apple DVD player.
To clarify, neither my Apple wired keyboard, nor the Apple DVD player work when plugged into the Anka USB port. Has anybody else had this issue and if so, what USB powered port did you buy in the end that worked as I've tried two now and no luck.
A guy at the Apple store told me it was something to do with firmware either in the DVD player, Apple keyboard, and/or the Anka USB hub.
All I want is a recommendation for a make/model of USB hub that will work.
Thanks guys.
