How to limit amount of email on iPhone

Like many iPhone users, I run into storage issues on a regular basis. I thought by upgrading my iCloud storage that would solve the problem but, for some reason, I am not able to access some of that extra storage. But, that's another post in itself.

I searched online to find out ways to reduce data usage and apparently there used to be an option in the iPhone's mail settings that allowed a user to limit the amount of emails displayed in any given account. However, I cannot find that option... was it removed in a recent update... and, if so, WHY? Is there any other way to limit the emails displayed/stored on the iPhone? I have 5 accounts and, between them, they are eating up a huge portion of my storage. I can't have music and I can't take new photos. Very frustrating.

I have been a diehard Apple user since the beginning but the last couple of years I have grown increasingly frustrated with Apple products. It seems like they're making things harder on users, rather than easier. I loved iPhoto - then they ditched it for the oversimplified Photos, which I think is much less user friendly. Now, if this email limit option has been deleted, that's yet another stupid move that will make things harder for us. Are they trying to lose customers? I just don't get it.

Yes, that Mail option is gone. You can reduce amount of emails stored in your device by Archiving or moving emails to On My Mac mailboxes via your computer or email web account interfaces. Those are not copied to the iPhone.

Review your other storage consuming apps. There might be other things you can delete.

Tap Settings > General > Storage & iCloud Usage > Manage Storage.

You can also reduce the size of your Photo library by turning on iCloud Photo Library and Optimizing your device storage. Learn more about app storage space and content.

Why on earth would Apple delete that option? If they're anything like me, other users will become increasingly annoyed at having to constantly battle storage issues.

I have "iCloud Photo Library" and "Optimize iPhone Storage" enabled.

I am not sure what the Archiving emails to On My Mac mailboxes means. I have Mail on my desktop already - I wouldn't need to copy it there. I only want to limit my mail on my phone to the last week or two.

Manage Storage just lists apps - how do I gain space by going there?
