ok so GarageBand has been updated and now the volume dots that you used to be able to implement have disappeared?
A line used to appear across the sound wave and you could click and drag points to raise and lower the volumes.
Why do they change stuff around?

pick Show Automation from the Mix menu:
that will reveal the track's automation button:
click once in the track to show the automation curve line:
add, move, delete your dots as you did before
