CarPlay works with USB cord but will not work wireless.

Most cars on the market only support CarPlay when you are plugged in using the USB cable. BMW and one 3rd market stereo manufacturer (Alpine?) are the only "ways" I am aware of currently to connect to CarPlay wirelessly.

While the initial appeal of wireless CarPlay sounds good, I feel many of us would still prefer to "plug-in" if for no other reason that to keep your iPhone charged.

Now...if and when "wireless" charging comes to the iPhone - that is a different story.

Correct. This is expected behaviour.
