Run .exe - Wine, VM or BC - free Windows

Hi,

First, sorry for the confusing title and please be patient as I've never had any desire to run Windows.

What I'm trying to do is run an .exe program in order to update my car's media system, it will only be used once a year or so (there is no macOS version).

I tried using Wine which seemed to be working ok but when I attach my USB (loaded with car media system info AKA fingerprint) the .exe program tells me the drive is write protected. I've tried a number of USB's formatted ExFAT and MS DOS (FAT) but the same message everytime.

So, is there a way round this?

Or, is there another free way to run this .exe program? By VM or Bootcamp, I don't own a copy of Windows can a limited version be downloaded for free?

I'd appreciate any help or advice and again, apologies!
