i got a pop up on safari. your ihone is heavily damaged by four virus removal. Is this s real concern?

Are you seeing this recurrence on any and all devices in your home? If so, your router has likely been compromised remotely. To test that possibility, turn the router off. Reset it to the factory defaults. This is typically done by holding in a small, recessed button for 5 seconds or so. Many routers also have a choice for a factory reset in the web pages it displays. So you may not even need to turn it off.

Either way you reset the router, after it has restarted and is ready, try the web again. If the unwanted pages stop, your router was the culprit.

Scam. Do NOT click on any links. If you did, do NOT enter any information on the site it takes you to. The entire purpose is to get your Apple ID and password, or other personal information.

To clear it, go to Settings > Safari > Clear data.

• Turn on Airplane mode
• Double-press the HOME button, find and kill Safari by swiping up
• Press the HOME button
• Go to Settings/Safari, scroll down, and tap Clear History and Website Data
• Open Safari and close all open tabs
• Turn Airplane mode off.

This should fix it.

[ADDENDUM] Don't visit websites where this has happened.

If you keep visiting the same sites where you see these messages, you'll keep getting the same ones. It's the site you're on that produces them (or a link or other site you keep visiting may redirect you there). Rethink where you go on the web.

Turning off the iPhone won't help. Clearing the old cached data is what you need to do. If it's still there, Safari will come up exactly the way it was when you turned the phone off.

One extra step that should definitely help. Double tap the home button to get to the application switcher screen. Flip through the open apps until Safari is chosen. Swipe it up and off the screen. This closes the app. Just like if you close an app (Command+Q) on your Mac.

Now do Settings > Safari > Clear data.

When you start Safari again, it should be clear.

Thanks for all the suggestions. I've been getting the popups from the ESPN MLB Standings page. I did delete the bookmark for ESPN but it still came back.

So far all instructions don't prevent it from popping up again. I have used these same methods in the past with success though.

Just on my iphone. I reset the router but then realized I didn't have the wifi on my phone on any way.

I've been trying to get the popups again using various sites except the ESPN site so far so good. But should I scratch that itch and try espn. I can live without it but I hate the idea that it's lurking in such a mor site.

I recognised it as a scam, but it's scary, as someone less internet-savvy (for example my mother) would likely have walked straight into the trap.
