When I connect my Macbook Air to HDMI, it shows my old desktop background

Hello, so I was doing a presentation today, and I have a personal desktop background that I didn't want anyone else to see so I changed it. But when I connect my Macbook Air to the HDMI, the old background showed up on the projector screen, which embarrased me in front of everyone.

I tried deleting the old picture would that be alright?

Can anyone help me and prevent me to embarass myself twice?😢

Hi,

Yes, you can delete the old picture if you want.

Try connecting to the projector again, booting into Safe Mode: https://support.apple.com/en-us/HT201262, changing the desktop picture to whatever you want, resetting the NVRAM: https://support.apple.com/en-us/HT204063, and booting normally again to see if the picture you set stays there. Restart again a few times just to make sure.
