The system information indicates the battery needs to be replaced. Replacing the batter appears simple enough and well within my experience with computers. What is the best source of replacement batteries?

I can't tell you if they have one because I don't know enough about your MBP (size), but NewerTech NuPower batteries from Macsales/OWC are considered by many here to be the best, with the best backing too.
