Is Malwarebytes Anti-Malware a legitimate software? If so why it is not in Apple Store?

By mistake I have downloaded MacKeeper on my MacBook air, however I uninstalled the MacKeeper later, in due course I was facing issues, when ever I open a website, MacKeeper use to popup indicating Mac is infected.

I have MacAfee installed on my MAC, if I run a full scan, MacAfee indicates no virus.

Finally to resolve the issue, I have downloaded Malwarebytes, the the tech staff of Malware bytes resolved the issue.

Q- I'm at a risk for using Malwarebytes?

Q- Is Malwarebytes a legitimate software? If then why it is not is AppleStore.

MacBook Air (13-inch, Early 2014)

1.4 GHz Intel Core i5

4 GB 1600 MHz DDR3

I was informed by a Senior Technician from Apple Support that, Malwarebytes is the only Outside App Store that is recommended by Apple. Just wanted to let everyone know. I use it for my MacBook Pro and my Google Pixel XL. I really like their support and help. They have a great security blog for those who are interested. Hope this helps. Peace Out ☮ Veronica

It cannot be in the Mac App Store, due to sandboxing restrictions placed on such apps. It would not be able to do its job under such restrictions.

You should be aware that the Mac App Store is not a guarantee of legitimacy. If you search for "antivirus" on the Mac App Store, the vast majority of what you'll find are scam apps, and the ones that are legit are crippled enough by the sandboxing as to be unable to detect some current Mac threats.
