New iPad Pro 10.5" Sim Tray Unable to Eject

I bought a brand new iPad Pro 10.5" 512 Gb last Friday at the Singapore Changi Airport. Also bought a piece of tempered glass and an Apple Pencil. Inserted a nano sim card and everything seemed fine.

Today (Sunday) I returned to Singapore and was restoring my old iPad backup to this new iPad Pro. Everything was smooth.

However, when I wanted to change the sim card, the sim tray wouldn't eject. Usually when you insert a pin inside the hole, there will be a click and the tray will eject. This time, there was a click, but the tray didn't eject. There was no more click in subsequent attempts to eject the sim card tray.

I went to the Apple retailer (where I purchased the iPad) who advised me to visit the Apple Store. At the Apple Store, the queue for technical help was too long and I was advised to come back another day.

As I will be away for another week, I would like to find ways to get the sim card out. Could anyone advise how I can do this? Or do I need to go back to Apple Store next weekend to seek help.

PS. This should not be happening to a brand new top of the range 512 Gb iPad Pro 10.5 inch.

If you did use the sharp end of a pin, you may have damaged the tray. It is recommended to use either a SIM card eject tool, or a paper clip for this.
