Macbook Pro extremely hot??

My Macbook Pro (Retina, 15-inch, Mid 2015) is getting extremely hot when in use and when charging. So hot to the point where I cannot place it on my legs to rest and need to put a pillow underneath. My laptop has never been this hot before to this extent. Any suggestions to fix it or should I bring it in for repair? It is even producing heat on the keyboard side...

Table tops are the recommended bases to use. Never beds or pillows. I always elevate the rear of my laptops to allow better airflow. There are any number of products that can be used from simply stands to collapsible feet that attach to the rear via adhesive and some that just adhere by vacuum.

That aside what do you find using Activity Monitor? Be sure you are running all the same software as you were when the computer started getting very hot. If possible, you should install some software that provides temperature readings such as Temp Monitor 1.0.0 or iStat Menus 5.31. Let me know what results you get. It also would help if you would relate which app/apps you are using when the computer gets really hot.

Firstly, the MBP should not be used on your legs for the reason you have discovered. Secondly, never use a MBP on a pillow or other base that does not dissipate heat. This will make matters worse for the computer.

For the heat problem, there may be any number of causes. See the following to get started:

Use Activity Monitor to Kill Runaway Processes

Use Activity Monitor on your Mac

Runaway applications can shorten battery runtime, affect performance, and increase heat and fan activity.
