AirDrop from Mac to iPAD: where are the images?

With the Photos app open on my iPad Pro, I AirDropped a folder of jpg images from my iMac to the iPad. With the AirDrop complete, I looked for the images on the iPad, but I cannot find them anywhere. I had hoped that would be automatically be sent to Photos, but they are not there.

I guess the question is: where does AirDrop put images on an iPad?

No, I've air dropped just images and files (.pdf) from my desktop (Finder); however, the images were not in a folder. Not sure if a folder has anything to do with it - try to air drop just an image. I just tested sending a .pdf and it worked just fine (I just dragged the .pdf from my desktop to his iPad in the air drop Finder window).
