Should I put the HD or SD on iPad for viewing?

If going away I want to put some of my iTunes movies I've bought on an iPad Air 2 for viewing only on the iPad screen, not to output to a TV. I always buy the HD version for using at home on Apple TV, but I think you can transfer the SD version to the iPad if you want.

So, not sure if this is a daft question tbh!, should I transfer the HD or SD on to the iPad for viewing, massive space savings, but happy to go HD if that shows better on the iPad.

thanks

No idea, how do I get both version on to test? surely I'd imagine HD is better on everyone's eyes, thats why I asked.

Actually now it says in iTunes Store there is a facility for 720P, maybe this is a happy medium for watching on iPad Air 2? How do I go about getting the 720P version on my iPad, as what I normally do is just download direct from my iPad, which version will this load though?

Or do I have to do it over USB via iTunes on my iMac? i.e. first download to iMac, then sync across USB to iPad. Seems a long and complicated way?
