I'm in India. Apple Maps is the worst here, the problem isn't with the maps app itself because I always use Google Maps anyways, but when I use other apps, they default to Apple Maps. Apps like Strava.
Is there anything that can be done?

No, you cannot change the system default maps app.
Note it only works, according to the authors, for iOS 8 or older.
