Brother MFC 440CN and Mac!

Hi All,

Does anybody know if there are any conflicts with the printer drivers for this model and OSX?

After installing (and reinstalling) the drivers supplied and countless hours with Brother support, I can't print from any application. No print job actually gets to a queue. I've tested the USB cables and ports and all is fine. Even when I plug my old printer back, I now get an error that says " please check a printer is selected in Print Center or check your print settings"

I can't help thinking the drivers they supplied have corrupted something in my system?? Is this likely??

Any help would be much appreciated guys. I'm stumped on this one!!

Cheers

thanks for your reply mate. However, after hours of troubleshooting, speaking to everybody at Brother and almost tearing my hair out, I found the issue.
As I suspected, the drivers I was supplied, completely corrupted a whole lot of my system fonts and killed my OS. A full re-install of tiger was required. Anyways, Brother gave me a great deal for my trouble, with what they swear was a "one off" !!

Thanks anyways for your advice.

Hey Mik!
Fear not. I just hooked up my new MFC-440 today only to be told by Brother that anything I created on OS9 Classic, cannot be printed on this new printer! Imagine my surprise!!!
Anyway, after many hours of digging, I was indeed able to print from OSX.4 and old fashion OS9 Classic.
Hope this helps:
1) Go to Apple.com and download Classic 9.2.2
2) Install Brother MFC-440 software from disc
3) Make sure you don't plug in your USB connection until asked to do so
4) Go to Printer Utility app. under 'Applications' and delete all old printers
5) Make sure to select your MFC-440 as your new 'default' printer
6) Make a print from OS X and select MFC-440 as your new printer under 'print setup'
7) Make sure Classic is up and running and try to print an old document from Classic OS 9.2.2
PS After step #5 you may have to restart your computer so that your changes take effect.

Best of luck and please let me know if this does the trick!
