Stuttering mouse cursor

Hi,

When moving the mouse around, the cursor on screen stutters.

It seems like there are short moments where the computer doesn't track the motion of the mouse, every second or so. This makes working on the computer near to impossible since each time the mouse is moved during this short interruption, the cursor jumps to another location due to the two last locations being so far apart.

A long time ago I could fix the error by restarting the computer. It didn't appear again for about half a year, but now it 's back and it doesn't seem to give up so quick.

I tried the following, as advised here ( Macbook Pro cursor jumping around ). Without succes.

- removed all bluetooth items (just one mouse) and disabled Bluetooth

- Boot in safe mode without the startup of 3rd party apps

- plug mouse out and back in, try different usb ports, try different mouse

- reset system management controller

- all displays are turned on

I'm using a wired mouse only

The computer is a macbook (late 2013) running OSX 10.10.5 Yosemite

Do you have an idea what this could be, and how it could be resolved?

All the best,

Elias

You didn't mention that it worked well with other machines. I don't have Yosemite but you may be able to follow this action. ... Apple Logo (top left) > Systems Preferences > Accessibility. If so, click on that and scroll down the left hand panel to Mouse and Trackpad. Click on that and towards the bottom of the right hand panel is a small box, ignore trackpad when mouse is present. Check that box. This prevents any effect from brushing on the trackpad.

An alternate thought is interference. This is another Apple document, this time dealing with that problem.

No you can't edit the first post after the first 15 minutes of posting it. But everyone knows now if they've followed so far.

All being tried I think a new mouse might be in order. They are not repairable.

But one last effort on my part. The batteries. Read my battery paper here ... particularly the cleaning of terminals. If batteries are loose that could explain it. Then check maker part of the paper.

Hi Seventy one,

Sorry I was imprecise.

I'll try the ignore trackpad option, although I don't think it's very relevant in a mac Pro computer (it doesn't have a trackpad).

Interference is also probably not an issue since I'm not working with a wireless device.

The stuttering is not of a noisy type, what you'd expect from interference, dirty lens or unintentional trackpad input.

It looks like every second more or less there's a short period that the mouse isn't tracked.
