Sync Issue - Invisible Songs Displaying On My iPhone

I am running the newest versions of iOS (10.3.2) and iTunes (12.6.1.25). I have a brand new HP Spectre 360 PC (although I had this issue on an older PC as well) and an iPhone 6s that is just over a year old. I do not use iTunes match or have an Apple Music subscription. I have my phone set not automatically sync with iTunes when plugged in.

I recently added a lot of music to my phone and I’m running into an issue with some of the songs not displaying properly on my iPhone – specifically in the artist view and sometimes in the album view. I have attached some pictures that give an example of what I’m seeing on my phone. Take a look at the picture titled “Aaliyah – Broken.” I have added (7) Aaliyah songs to my iPhone, but only one (the song “I Miss You”) can be viewed on the artist view for Aaliyah (I’m going to Artists-->Aaliyah-->Unknown Album). The other songs are there, but their names aren’t appearing. They are listed as empty spaces. If I select one of the empty spaces a song will play, but you don’t know what song will play until after you touch it and it starts playing.

I’ve included another example (see pictures “112 – Pic 1 – Broken” and “112 – Pic 2 – Broken”). Of the (8) 112 songs I added, only (5) titles are visible. Also attached is a picture of an artist (Alan Jackson) that is displaying correctly. I can easily view and select all of songs I added for him.

So unfortunately this is happening for some but not all albums/artists. I’m having a hard time determining why it happens for some but not others. The only thing I’m noticing is on the “broken” pictures (112 & Aaliyah) you will see the red cloud icon but on the “correct” one (Alan Jackson) there is no cloud icon at all.

My guess/assumption is this is somehow caused by a conflict with the cloud and/or previous music that I’ve purchased in the iTunes store. Music I've purchased in the iTunes store makes up less than 1% of my total music. I’m pretty sure I don’t have music saved/stored in the cloud, but it’s possible I need to fix my settings to make sure there isn’t conflict somewhere.

Any help you can provide would be hugely appreciated!

-Mark

It could well be that iTunes isn't detecting and stripping out the tag(s) properly when you use Convert to none. This could leave residual information, some of which is blank. iTunes reports what it is in its database, which should tally with what it has read from the tag(s) and/or written to them. Windows Explorer shows only the values that it reads from the tag(s). It might help to use a third party tool such as Mp3tag to inspect the tags and strip them. If they are completely clean as viewed from Windows Explorer, then Convert > ID3v2.3 ought to push data into the file in a way that works correctly in iTunes, in Windows Explorer, and on your iPhone.

I'm still having this issue - has anyone else noticed this before? Just today I tried adding a new album from iTunes to my iPhone 6s (both itunes and phone are fully updated with the new releases) and none of the song titles are displaying on my phone, despite them showing up on iTunes as well as correctly in the "sort" tab. See attached screen shot for what i'm seeing on my iPhone.

I've tried the restore as a new phone and frankly, this was happening on an old phone as well, just not as frequent.

It's similar to what has happened with the others, although I believe this is the first time I've seen that an entire album of songs was invisible. Typically at least one song title displays, if not more. Attached is another example for 112 songs that I added from iTunes to the phone (not an album just random songs) - in this instance you can see that 5 of the 8 songs display and 3 are invisible.

Ok let me make sure I'm doing this right.

1) In iTunes, I am highlighting all 12 songs on the album from my first screenshot today (the album Camino Palmero by The Calling).

2) File > Convert > Convert ID3 Tags... > None multiple times

3) File > Convert > Convert ID3 Tags... > v2.3

4) Add the album back on my phone?

Is that accurate or do I need to do it each song individually rather than highlighting all of them? If those steps are correct, then unfortunately it did not work.

Also, after I use File > Convert > Convert ID3 Tags... > None

a few times, should I notice anything different on the songs? Either how they're displaying in iTunes or when I hit "get info" where I can edit the song names, etc? Because right now the only difference I'm seeing is that after I hit File > Convert > Convert ID3 Tags... > None

a few times I lose the artwork on the album (which I can easily add back in by grabbing the image from wikipedia or google images).

So does it make sense to you that the iPhone wouldn't follow the tags that are already in iTunes and instead use tags from Windows Explorer?

With the albums and artists that I have invisible songs, I always double check to make sure the info is uniform in iTunes - I even check the "sorting" tab when you right click on a song and hit "song info"

If the regular iTunes info is uniform and it matches the "sorting" tab info - why wouldn't the iPhone follow that? Seems strange that I have to convert ID3 tags, then change the info in Windows explorer and re-add everything.

Thanks - unfortunately I feel my overall computer abilities are a level or two below where they need to be at in order to follow those things so I'm not exactly sure where to even begin.

Would you ever be free for a phone call? I'd pay you if we can figure out a way to get this fixed. I've spent my entire day just typing in track names, album years, etc and there has to be a better way for the info that's already correctly displaying on itunes to show up on my phone.

Let me know if that is possible.

I understand that, but you shouldn't have to enter a made-up album name in order to get a song title to appear - I'm talking about when you browse by artist and click on an artist name. I'm fine with apple categorizing a song track as "unknown album" as they have always done, and I know that if I won't see a non-album song when you browse by album. But under the "artist" view, you shouldn't need an album name just to see a song track appear.

I know this because song track titles appear just fine on my phone when the artist has just one song (and sometimes it displays correctly when they have 2+ as well). And a week ago before the restore as new, the vast majority of the single (non-album) songs I was adding would display properly.

I have many thousands of songs and hundreds of artists (maybe 500-800 artists). Going through each artist one by one and creating a made up album can't be the best way around this. After all, if I do it, then my albums view will be jam packed with "albums" that aren't actual albums. Right?

Yeah I'm not sure about the whole cloud thing and why it goes away when I tap it on my phone. I used to buy music from the iTunes store years ago. I probably have close to 15,000 songs that I'd like to add to my phone - my guess is 200-300 of them were purchased from iTunes store. Some of the rest (non iTunes sore) are nearing 20 years old and others I bought last week. Some are ripped from CDs, some are from torrents, some from Napster/Kazaa, etc. All over the place. Maybe they're not playing well together.

When you say "factory restore" - is that different from what I did last week? Are you suggesting to restore as new and then not restore it from a backup?
