Memory/RAM full usage?

Hello everyone - hope you are all well.

I am using some photo processing apps - Lightroom and Photomatix - they seem to be running quite slow.

I just checked in Activity Monitor and for some strange reason this iMac is only using half the 32GB of RAM

How can I configure setting to use it all?

Thanks in advance.

Kindly, L

computer memory is storage, storage is used when required. only way one can use it all is to start more programs or use programs which use a lot of storage.

think of the memory as your kitchen table and the hd storage as your fridge, and the cpu as the cook. if the recipe don't need more ingreediences there will always be empty parts of the kitchen table, and taking out ingreediences not required for the disc will not make the meal be finished faster.

The only thing I notice, and I see it in your Activity Monitor screenshot too, is that Chrome is using a lot of your available resources and possibly slowing you down. In addition you have one possible adware file that should be removed. Try getting rid of Chrome and all of it's pieces, you can always reinstall of you find that you can't live without it.Chrome is a notorious resource pig.

I agree with Mike Sombrio.

Ditch Google Chrome and, if possible, quit using Google Drive when using Photomatix and Lightroom.

Heavy resource photo editing apps should be gven as much of the available computer resources, as possible.

Switch to Mozilla Firefox web browser, instead, OR go back to Apple Safari web browser.

Google Chrome web browser is a known Mac computer resource hog as Google has never, EVER optimized Chrome for the Mac OS.

Good Luck!

I believe the Skybox plugin for Premiere has been leading to very high CPU usage associated with the WindowServer process when Premiere is running and it's been slowing everything down to the point that my Mac Pro is barely responsive. It doesn't look like that matches up with what you seem to be running or which processing are using resources, but I thought I'd throw it out there since I saw you also have it installed.
