My Logitech mouse on mac OS Sierra 10.12.5 does not work properly.

My Logitech MX620 Laser Cordless Mouse configured with the Logitech Control Center app works haphazardly.

It seems to only work correctly 1 out of 20 times when restarting my mac Mini, model late 2012.

Why is mac OS Sierra 10.12.5 so buggy?

Why does everything in this OS work so randomly?

I already tried troubleshooting the Logitech Control Center, a couple times by deleting it and reinstalling it again.

It's also running the most up-to-date version, so like always with mac OS Sierra, I feel stranded and rendered useless.

Hi Tesserax-

That Starview KVM switch seems interesting, I might get one later.

In regards to your reply, I'm already running the version you mentioned:

  • Software Version: 3.9.5.66
  • Post Date: 06-OCT-2016
  • OS: Mac OS X 10.12.x
  • File Size:20.2 MB

My mouse is also listed as having full compatibility with the Logitech Control Center software.

So I guess there's plenty more bugs for them to fix for the most unreliable operating system, macOS Sierra 10.12.5, typical...

FWIW. I don't have the MX620, but the Logitech Performance MX mouse for my 2014 Mac mini ... which is running macOS Sierra 10.12.5. I have yet to have any issues, as you described, with it.

In addition, the mouse is not directly connected to my mini, but via a Starview KVM switch, so that it can be shared with a Win10 PC.

From the Logitech support site the latest Logitech Control Center version is: 3.9.5.66, dated 6 Oct 2016. For the Logitech Unifying Software, it is: 1.2.359, dated 1 Feb 2017. Both of these were updated for "Bug fixes for Mac OS Sierra."

So once the report is generated click the share button, click copy report. To check what has been copied go to Finder and click Edit in the menubar then click Show Clipboard, this should show the report with coloured text. If all looks ok then Paste it into your reply here. If not then it might be an indication that an app is affecting the behaviour of your Mac.

Eau Rouge- The Clipboard is definitely copying things correctly, but it doesn't seem to respect the text formatting when pasting it elsewhere.

You seem to be having problems of your own, as others have stated they are not experiencing the problems you are.

You could try downloading and installing the Combo updater, Download macOS Sierra 10.12.5 Combo Update this will do no harm and can reset some system files that may have become corrupted.

It is possible that you have installed thirty party software that is causing the conflicts you could download this, http://etrecheck.com/ once installed you can run it to generate a report of your Mac, you can post the results back here and we can have a look and see if there is anything that could be causing your problems. No personal information is in the report.

Otherwise you may have to go for a re-install.

Jul 14, 2017 10:40 AM in response to Eau Rouge

Dear Eau Rouge-

Honestly, I don't think I'm having problems of my own, with the exception of the tinnitus I just got due an idiot yelling directly into my ear. But in terms of the macOS Sierra installed in my mac mini, late 2012 model, well that's another story.

On the contrary, there's plenty of people experiencing the same problems with their Logitech mice, which are not working properly on macOS Sierra.

I already have macOS Sierra 10.12.5 update installed, and after that install my mac mini went whack.

Is macOS Sierra 10.12.5 Combo Update and macOS Sierra 10.12.5 the regular update the same? Or are they two different updates?

You mention the following, "It is possible that you have installed thirty party software that is causing the conflicts you could download this, http://etrecheck.com/once installed you can run it to generate a report of your Mac, you can post the results back here and we can have a look and see if there is anything that could be causing your problems. Ironically, Etrecheck is also a third party software not directly available from the macOS App Store. However, I do have a some third party software installed, like The Unarchiver, f.lux, and some few others, so I don't mind testing out your suggestions, and thanks for your help, I'll take advantage of your willingness to send a helping hand my way. I'll post those results so we can take a look at them. Thanks.

Jul 14, 2017 11:09 AM in response to Christopher Doryan

Etrecheck is fine it is recommended and used by many here.

Installing the Combo update is also recommended here as it can reset some system files that may have become corrupted. The Combo updates any previous version of macOS Sierra to 10.12.5, the Delta or standard update will only update macOS Sierra 10.12.4 to 10.12.5. Again regardless of whether you have 10.12.5 already installed it is recommended to try.

Jul 14, 2017 1:27 PM in response to Eau Rouge

Dear Eau Rouge- Here's is the Etrecheck report (I couldn't upload the exported/saved ".pdf" file and was wondering how to save it as screen capture or image. However, that's one of the problems I'm also encountering with macOS Sierra, I just can't set up the shortcuts for > Services > Pictures > Capture Full Screen) *I would also like to be able to create a shortcut for capturing the screen of an opened app. The EtreCheck Report for example would have been a perfect example of what I would like to do:

Logitech like a lot of companies, will make using older hardware like printers and mice on newer macOS systems so painful that you can save a lot of time by just getting a newer device that uses their newer software.

Stores like BestBuy, Staples and Office Depot will let you bring back a mouse if it doesn't work out for you. I would try one of the newer Logitech mice and see if it works for you. It might be the cost is worthwhile. FWIW, these local stores will match Amazon pricing. Just ask at check out.

I have the Logitech M720 Triathlon, but also tried out MX Master and MX Anywhere. The M720 was the best fit for my hand. The Logitech Performance Mouse MX is an old version that was very popular. It has been replaced and the new one uses the Logitech Options software that will work in Sierra.

Go to Logitech and sort by newest. You don't want to fall for a sale price on an older version of the mouse. Once you know which version is new, start shopping.

http://www.logitech.com/en-us/mice-pointers/mice?sort-by=newest

Hope this helps!

Jul 14, 2017 2:22 PM in response to dianeoforegon

dianeoforegon- I understand what you mean, but it has nothing to do with Logitech. As a matter of fact my Logitech MX620 Laser Cordless Mouse works perfectly on my Windows 10 PC, just like it did with Windows 7 when it was brand new. What's even funnier, is that this mouse works flawlessly when using Boot Camp with this same mac mini.

So having to buy a new mouse is a sort of mediocre way to solve this problem, since the mouse works perfectly.

Besides, I also just bought two brand new cheaper Logitech mice for my Raspberry Pi 3 and another single board computer that I own, and they also don't work that well with macOS Sierra, but do just fine with everything else, so it figures. Typical Apple quality operating system.

I saw somebody else's Etrecheck Report Result on another question maintain the text format, but using your "Click on the Share Report button on the top left, then click Copy Report" described technique didn't retain it.

Funny how EtreCheck reported different performance results on the two runs I gave it. On the first run it reported as Excellent, and then on the second run it reported as Good. When awkwardly enough, I had updated the flash player and removed the orphan file it both was pinpointing to be removed after the first report. So it's kind of funny that after implementing it's own suggestions, the report result shows a worse result. Whatever.

You seem to have a number of apps that alter the behaviour of your Mac which may or not be causing problems.

One app I would get rid of is App Cleaner and Uninstaller, any app that proclaims to clean or optimise your Mac is to be avoided as they can cause more problems than they claim to fix. If you need to uninstall apps check with the developer on how to uninstall it properly. You have Copyclip and Copia installed so I was wondering if these might be what is causing your issue with copying the Etrecheck report. I would remove all of these 'enhancement' apps and maybe re-download one by one from purchases in the App Store and see if you can pinpoint which one is causing you problems. Do you really need all of them.

The performance report of good or excellent is a not an indication of how your Mac is running but how quickly Etrecheck generated the report.
