How to migrate data from 2008 iMac to 2017 iMac

I purchased one of the brand new 2017 iMacs for my mom.

Her old computer is a 2008 iMac. I've also done a Super Duper clone of her computer to an external hard drive.

How do I go about connecting the 2 computers together to transfer the data?

The easiest and most reliable method is to connect the Time Machine backup HD from your old computer to the new computer. If you have not recieved the new computer when you turn it on for the first time it will ask if you are migrating from another Mac, select yes and and follow the on-screen prompts.

If you have already set up the new iMac then connect the Time Machine External Hard Disk to the new computer via USB and open Migration Assistant (Applications - Utilities - Migration Assistant) and follow the on-screen prompts.

able Jason,

Do you create a bootable clone to backup. If not, then create a Time Machine backup of the old computer and use that to migrate. Then you can use Time Machine to migrate. If you create a bootable clone then you can connect that via USB to the new computer and migrate from that.

Another poster suggested using Wi-FI, this is incorrect and should never be attempted for migration.
