Save option grayed out when 'On my Mac' selected

On a MacBook Pro macOS Sierra version 10.12.5, I am attempting to save a Microsoft Excel (version 15.36) spreadsheet in a csv format. When I select the 'On my Mac' option, save is grayed out:

If I switch to 'Online locations' the option to save is available:

How do I enable the ability to save a file locally? I am new to this OS, so any assistance would be greatly appreciated. Thank you!

Hi eshenayo,

Thanks for reaching out in Apple Support Communities. I understand that you're trying to save an Excel file to the local storage on your Mac. I know it's important to be sure you know where your files are being stored and I can understand reaching out to clarify this; I'm happy to help. The way the save options are displayed in this program can be somewhat counter-intuitive; your first screenshot actually displays the options available to save online, once you click on the "On My Mac" option in that window the next screen you're taken to is the local save option. From there you can choose the folder it is being saved to, add tags, and choose the format you'd prefer to save in.

In summary, clicking on the "On My Mac" or "Online Location" buttons you see in the save screen takes you to that particular option. So, if you see the "On My Mac" button on the save screen, you're looking at online save options and you'll want to select "On My Mac" to get to the correct place. If you see the "Online Locations" button you're in the right spot to save to your Mac directly.

Best Regards.
