Line-in recording on MacBook

Hi, I'm considering purchasing the 12 inch MacBook. I like to do some 'line-in' recording from my cassette player to my PC. I normally use a line-in lead to plug in to the cassette player's headphone socket, and the other end in to the pc's microphone.

would I still be able to do this on the MacBook..?

Thanks, Lee.

Yes, the iMic has both line and mic level inputs (3.5mm jacks).

You can record into QuickTime, but I wouldn't as there are very few facilities. I use Amadeus Pro - there is a Light version which would probably suit you: http://www.hairersoft.com . Alternatively Audacity is free and a lot of people like it - it's well featured but I found it clumsy when I tried it, though that was a few years back. However it's a good starting point and should be fine if you don't have a lot to do. You can always move up to a paid-for program later if you feel the need. https://sourceforge.net/projects/audacity/

The MacBook uses the headphone jack for input and output. I've used a short (6") 3.5mm stereo male to 3.5mm stereo male cable to connect the headphone jack from one audio source to the MacBook. It was easy to record the audio directly into GarageBand. You have to play with the levels on both the source device and in GarageBand to get a clean recording, but it does work. 😀
