textInput is not new, here a screenshot from an iPhone 4S - iOS 9.3.5.

On the Mac, text input can also be found. The folder Assets, AssetsDb & MMCS are all empty.

Presumably, it has to do with using the keyboard to enter text (action), and the technique behind use the dictionary (response).

Maybe there's a developer here on Apple Support Communities who can give explanation.

The TextInput folder stores your personal dictionary of a shortcut for word and input pairs. When you use iCloud Drive the dictionary will sync across all your devices.

When using certain Chinese or Japanese keyboards, you can create a shortcut (text replacement) for word and input pairs. The shortcut is added to your personal dictionary. When you type a shortcut while using a supported keyboard, the paired word or input is substituted for the shortcut

If you use a Mac you can see contents of the TextInput folder with Terminal.app. The directory is the following: ~/Library/Mobile Documents/com~apple~TextInput/

I've noticed the same file under documents & data in iCloud today after updating to iOS 10.3.3, I'm not sure it that file was there before updating. Also when trying to delete it it's automatically recreated!

I see "textinput" under my Icloud as well. Doesn't seem right to see this using up storage on Icloud especially when you are paying monthly for additional storage.
