Unable to Re-Add Profile using Configurator 2

Hi all

I have just cleaned up 28 of the school iPads as during most holidays, except this time it will not let me re-add our Meraki profile.

iPad 5th Gen and iPad Air

iOs 10.3.2

Mac OS 10.12.5

To recap: I always delete the Student Config Profile and the Meraki Profile before I update the iOS and delete unwanted apps, pics, files and add other apps.

The Student Profile has gone back on, however the Meraki profile will not.

The Activity Window was showing "acufetchfirmwareversionsoperation" on all iPads.

I Force Quit the Apple Configurator 2 app, restarted it and it looked to work before it failed with:

An unexpected error has occurred with these 26 iPads.

Profile Installation Failed

The Internet connection appears to be offline. [MCInstallationErrorDomain – 0xFA1 (4001)]

and I could then, Stop, Skip, or Skip Profile...

So it looks like it may have worked with 2 out of 28 that were plugged in.

The VDSL Internet Connection is fine - I'm using it now.

Does anyone have any good ideas on how to get the Apple Configurator 2 App working reliably?

I could manually link the iPads with the Meraki App to the MDM...but there's plenty to go after these first 28.

Update: I can confirm that 2 of the iPads did install the profile - numbers 11 & 12.

So I retried with the remaining 26...

3 iPads decided to install - numbers 2, 9, & 14.

I tried several more times but no others jumped on board.

The randomness of this is the most frustrating.

Hi. Does the Profile work if you install it manually on a device?

I wonder if the Profile has an outdated signature (certificate). That could explain the "offline" message, since Apple often reports unsuccessful internet transactions as no internet connection.

Hi Diana

I was able to add the profile manually.

Then I noticed that some of the iPads were getting hung on the wifi request page, although they were not supposed to request any interaction.

Once they were pushed through this - not ideal - they would then load the MDM profile.

A couple of days later I re-imaged another set of identical iPads without any issues - except that some Apps are requesting Apple IDs...by this stage iOS 10.3.3 had been released.

Thanks for your input - it makes a difference that someone is offering a solution.

It did remind me and I have just updated our MDM certificate to hopefully remove that as a source of future frustration.

Hello there,

Have you added a wifi profile to the devices? If the devices are not connected to the internet, you will not be able to install any MDM profile, including Meraki. It's not just the Mac running Configurator that needs to connect, each iPad needs to be connected too.
