m4v file can’t be opened because it is from an unidentified developer.

I'm trying to make Quicktime my default player for m4v files (default file extension used by Iphone camera app):

User uploaded file

However when I do so I receive the strangest error:

User uploaded file

Last time I checked video files are not applications so there's not a developer behind the video...

Have you encountered something like this?

MacBook Pro with Retina display, macOS Sierra (10.12)

If the m4v is a "normal" file extension it should play without any problems.

In a mac you select the file, CTL+Click it and choose *get info",

that opens the Info window, in "Open with" you can select Quicktime and

under that "change all": that changes Quicktime to the default app for that file extension.

If you still get the mysterious message about this file, it is probably be corrupt.

If you have this issue with all m4v files, there is something else wrong.
