Horizontal keyboard - terrible layout

Now that I have upgraded both my phone and iOS, I have found that the horizontal orientation keyboard is TERRIBLE. My poor thumbs have to stretch towards the middle of the screen because of the many buttons added to the borders. Is there any way to revert to the original layout? The new version is no longer intuitive and is difficult to use. I have long, thin fingers but as phone screens increase in size, suddenly I am also expected to grow in thumb length to reach the middle where the ENTIRE keyboard is stuffed now. May try just increasing the keyboard size, unless it changes all text as well.

Also, any way to edit one's preferences to NOT show the little drawing screen by default when I turn it sideways? I can't stand this showing up and don't know anyone who uses it, however I do a fair amount of typing and keeping the phone vertical at all times for this is difficult and frustrating.

So, 2 issues:

- The drawing screen popping up whenever I switch to landscape orientation

- The keyboard layout - keyboard in the middle is hard to reach, and extra buttons on the borders are unnecessary
