Mac Book Pro Unexpected Shutdown

Could anyone help. I have a 2014 Macbook Pro. It automatically shutsdown randomly when switched on. The only way i can prevent this shutdown is if i have an Antivorus running only then will it not shutdown.

I would be very greatful if i could get some help on this matter. It seems like a virus but my antivirus software cannot find one.

Many Thanks

MacBook Pro (Retina, 15-inch, Late 2013), macOS Sierra (10.12.5)

shut down, disconnect all external devices and reset the smc

https://support.apple.com/en-us/HT201295

then boot into safe mode

https://support.apple.com/en-us/HT201262

then reboot normally.

The current lineup of Anti-Virus for OS X; especially those with a history of "Windows credibility" have been shown repeatedly on these forums as causing mild to catastrophic issues with OS X.

Any AV product for Mac claiming it finds Mac "virus" is an entirely fraudulent claim. Currently there are no reported virus infections for OS X found by any credible securities lab in the world. Macs are not immune to virus, no OS is and Mac OS can become infected with Malware and Adware, but not anywhere near the volume of variants for Windows, however any virus by definition has yet to appear for Mac OS at this time.

Mac related Malware and Adware infections can usually be removed with Malwarebytes for Mac and/or Etrecheck which are two free utilities offered by contributors to this forum that do not stay resident and conflict with OS X.

To use your Mac as a gatekeeper to protect your Windows devices is not advised either, it's like using a hamster to guard a Rottweiler. Use a Windows solution to protect your Windows devices. Windows AV products have had years of time to mature, hundreds of thousands of hours more development time and the developers have the ability to share information with Microsoft. Apple does not offer any of this and does not disclose their internal securities state with anyone, not even Apple employees outside of the development team.

Keep your Mac up-to-date with OS X and Securities patches directly from Apple, this has been proven to be the single best software defense against exposure to potentially damaging software. The single best policy for web browsing: Stay off sites that promote or offer otherwise commercial software or media for free; they are notorious for providing a platform for malware disguised as legitimate software that YOU as the end user facilitate an install for them knowingly or not.

Do not use a Windows solution or mindset for OS X. These are two entirely different OS's in their behavior andsusceptibility to attacks and infiltration. Mac OS does not need 3rd party utilities to keep itself functioning, the findings on this forum have shown repeatedly these products cause far more problems than the purport to fix, AV products for Mac being the worst of offenders.

if safe mode is working it most def puts the spotlight on something 3rd party running and causing a problem not necessarily related to hardware.
