Snapchat videos can't upload to iMovie

Hello,

I am trying to import Snapchat videos that I took on my iPhone and saved to my photo library, but they are not being accepted by iMovie. When I drag and drop them, I get an error sound along with a gray circle with a diagonal line through it. Please help me as I do not understand what else I can do.

Hi,

Instead of dragging the videos into iMovie, try importing them using iMovie's import feature. Click on the little down arrow in the upper left of the iMovie screen, and then navigate to where your videos are located.

If that doesn't work, it is possible that the Snapchat vids are in a format that is unsupported by iMovie. Open one of the vids in Quicktime Player, and then select Window/Show Movie Inspector. That will display a box that shows the codecs of the video. iMovie likes Mp4/AAC and H.264 codecs. It will also download other formats, but that is the most common one that works well. If you have a different codec, try converting a duplicate of the movie to Mp4 using the free download, Handbrake. It is very easy to do. Then see if it imports properly. Do the conversion to Mp4 even if the Quicktime inspector shows Mp4, as that sometimes will clear any glitches and insure that the Mp4 is in fact Mp4/AAC. iMovie doesn't accept all Mp4. It needs to be Mp4/AAC.
