Adding more colors to the Calendar App

Right now, I can choose to post events in my calendar as either blue (home) or green (work). I'd like to add more colors and descriptions so I can track my children's activities better. I would also like to change "work" to something else. This seems as if it should be so simple!

Confusingly, these groups are called Calendars, too...

First, click on the Calendars button to display the sidebar.

Now, select New Calendar from the File menu. Select if you want it created on your Mac or in iCloud. A new "untitled" calendar is added to the sidebar. The title text field should already be preselected so you can name it. Click somewhere outside of this field so the title is saved. Right click on the name and select a new predefined or custom color for it.

Click twist on an existing name to be able to rename it.

All that is available is in the app. You can choose which calendars to show only based on the colors you've assigned from those available. Now, if you click on any color you should find context menu at the bottom of which you will see Custom Color. If you select it you can change that particular color, but that is the limit of your control.

The way your question was worded and the topic title led me to believe you were asking Apple to make some change in the program. Hope the above is what you wanted. If not then look through the app's Help.
