*** iBook AV cable

I have the iBook version before it went to the MacBook. I would like to show a presentation on a tv, so I bought the av cable (from earphone jack to RCA's at the other end) from Apple. I've tried plugging it in, but I can't get anything to show up on the tv. Do I have to change anything in the system preferences? I've changed the video input screens on my tv (V1, V2, etc.) but nothing ever shows up....hoping this cable is compatible with this iBook...

Thanks in advance!

Hi Big MaCanadian,

You seem to have the iBook AV Cable with a 3.5mm jack on the end, as required for 500mhz and 600mhz iBook G3 systems. This cable is not compatible with any other Apple product. You will need to get a mini-DVI to SVideo/Composite cable from Apple, in addition to a set of 3.5mm to RCA Stereo and composition/svideo cables.

It's a bit of a retrograde step in some ways, but it can do svideo, which is a better video standard, so there's some pluses too.

You'll need to get the Apple Video Adapter and a video cable. From your iBook, the Apple A/V cable just won't carry any video.

Duane's right, you can continue to use the Apple A/V cable to get the audio only from your headphone port to the TV. The Apple Video Adapter does not carry any audio, so you'd need some kind of similar "Y" cable like that anyway unless you want the audio to come out of your iBook.
