So I've read that on a windows keyboard its control+c control+v on Mac. That crtl takes place of commend. All I keep getting is a checkmark. Would love to use the keyboard that came with my 27 2017 iMac but its that tiny thing without a number pad and I just can't stand it.

They are set right. It appears that logitech gaming keyboards have an issue here. The windows key and the "right click" (is that what that key is called?) Wont detect on a Mac. Found a basic Microsoft keyboard and plugged it up and it works fine.
Try Command +C and Command+V
It will also depend on how you have your Modifer Keys set.
On my Logitech USB keyboard, the Alt (option) and Command keys are reversed compared to the Keyboard Viewer input.
No luck there, it almost feels like none of my keys are operating as command. Is there anything I can use to read what the machine says impressing vs what I'm actually pressing?
Keyboard viewer shows every key working except one for command. Its given up on me there.
Go to: Apple > System Preferences > Keyboard > Keyboard tab > click on the Modifier Keys... box
and look to see what your Command Key and other Modifier keys are set to?
Doesn't mean a simple command such as copy paste wouldn't work on a regular keyboard. This keyboard is even Mac certified. Its a pretty expensive Logitech gaming keyboard.
