illegal seek with 10.12.5 Combo Update

I get an illegal seek when I try to open the macOS Sierra 10.12.5 Combo Update. I've downloaded it at least six times. On what passes for fast here, the download takes over two hours. I have a mid 2010 Mac Pro and can't take it to a faster connection.
