Photos slideshow with manual advance of slides

I would like to create a slideshow in Photos in which the slides are advanced manually, perhaps by hitting the spacebar or an arrow key. I had some success by creating a timed slideshow with the timing much greater than I would ever manually dwell on a single slide; then I can go to the next slide manually. *However*, each time I advance to the next slide, the floating controls (forward, back, etc.) appear briefly over the new slide, somewhat spotting the presentation. Any ideas on how to be able to move from one slide to the next without this happening?

The slideshow feature is what it is.

There is no level of control to do what you wish. When you "mouseover" a playing slideshow to control it, the controls appear. Timing can only be "to music" or a specified period of time.

If you need more control, you should perhaps find another slideshow product.
