I can not get into my iPod touch ISO 9.35. It is saying activation lock. Could someone please help me? I have used my iCloud username and it keeps teliing me that the password and username is wrong. I verified my username through apple support.

My iPod Touch 5 has an activation lock on. No idea why. I can see the lock screen and when swiped the message says:
"Activation error Activation request could not be completed. Please press the home button and try again. I the problem persists, please contact customer service"
I have had this ipod for 3 or 4 years and have never seen this message before. When I press the home button, a cancel button is the only option and it takes me back to the above-stated message.
