crop and rotate glitch

Hi, I have a glitch where images don't crop and rotate correctly. The original jpg image was imported from iPhone to Photos and cropping and rotated, but Photos did strange things (zoomed out, and coloured the image red). When I clicked Done, the image looks as show - with red bits in it (the crop proportions like ok though). I have tried lots of things including starting from a brand new Photos library, with no change. The original image looks ok in Preview and Photo's, but when cropped and rotated strange things happen. I have done this many many times before and no issue. Any ideas ? Thx
