Chrome on Macbook Pro 10.7.5 - Possible?

Is it possible to put Chrome on my Macbook Pro? My laptop is 5 years old tomorrow, and I am having problems watching catchup TV (ITV Player). It is OSX 10.7.5. Gave up using Safari and got Firefox, which helped a couple of months ago. Now, more problems developing. Was recommended to download Chrome, but looking at Google website it says Chrome is "not supported" on my laptop. Should I try and download it anyway?

By the way, I am not very tech savvy, being oldish. If anyone replies, please make it simple !!

Thanking you in advance. I don't know if I am posting this at the right place either.

Thank you for your quick reply too.

I found this information on the support forum, and I think it means my 10.7.5 will not take Sierra.

Lion (10.7) upgrade questions

Can anyone tell me otherwise please?

I can't believe my beloved laptop, which has not had a hard life, and has never been messed around with, is starting to fail already.

The latest version of Google Chrome will not run on a Mac running OS X 10.7.5 (Lion), but it will run on Macs running OS X 10.9 (Mavericks) or later. If you want to install Chrome on your MacBook Pro, check if your Mac supports later versions of OS X or macOS. If it does, then upgrade your Mac to the latest version that it supports, which should run Chrome fine.

Upgrades to OS X 10.9 (Mavericks) or later are free for any supported Macs

Thank you so much for the quick reply. Oh, if only it were that simple! I believe I looked at trying to upgrade from Lion a couple of years ago, but it wasn't possible. Unless I can take my laptop to an Apple Shop and get them to do it. The next reply suggests that Mavericks is no longer available either.

I just love my Mac, but am starting to feel like Apple want me to buy a new one. Surely 5 years is not old !

Thanks QuickTimeKirk. Well, that link certainly looks like it might be possible after all. I would not dream of trying to do it myself though.

Has anyone got any idea of what an Apple shop would charge me to do the upgrade?

Thanks so much by the way ! Nice to know helpful people are out there and responding so fast.

Really? I think I need an expert to help me then. There is no way I could start messing about myself, especially when the words "self destruct" are used. I will go to an Apple shop and ask if they can do it for me. I'd be happy to pay (a reasonable amount) if the thing will continue working with no problems.

Thank you for your input Csound1. I only use my Mac to email, surf, watch programmes and generally get information. I'm not an expert and it's difficult for me to understand all this technical stuff. Thanks again.
