iWatch SOS Malfunction

This past Friday morning, 7/21/17, my iWatch sent an emergency alert to my three ICE contacts stating that I had just made a 911 call from my current location. However, I had not made such a call. After confirming with them that I had not actually made such a call, it sent out essentially the same message again. So, once again I had to confirm with them that I had not actually made such a call. It was more than a little disconcerting to my family as I was on travel in NYC at the time and the messages went out pretty early in the morning. Can't seem to find anything that would explain how this message could go out when I didn't make the 911 call. Any explanation available? Or any steps I can take to make sure it doesn't happen again?

If you have not yet done so, it may help to update your iPhone and Apple Watch to the latest software, starting with your iPhone:

If the issue then recurs, I suggest that you contact Apple Support for assistance:

Hi

With the "Hold to Auto Call" option enabled, Emergency SOS activates if the side button is pressed and held down. This may have occurred without you noticing it at the time.

To turn off the "Hold to Auto Call" option, if desired:

On your iPhone, in the Watch app, go to: My Watch > General > Emergency SOS - turn off Hold to Auto Call.

More information - including instructions for stopping SMS updates - is detailed here:
